Notes for Installation
Thank you for choosing our wallpaper, you are about to make your wall a place of art.
Please do not try to install the wallpaper until you have read these notes.
The wallpaper shall be installed by experienced professionals. Any handling or installation deviating from these notes may damage the wallpaper and relieve Reach & Co. of the warranty.
Please double-check the wallpaper before installation and make sure they are exactly what you ordered. Please let us know promptly for any discrepancy before the installation. The commencement of cutting and/or installation shall be deemed your acceptance of the wallpaper. Any disputes raised thereafter will be rejected.
Any wallpapers that have been cut, pasted or installed will not be returned. Labour cost, indirect loss or expected loss of whatever nature is not accepted under any circumstances.
Wall Pre-treatment:
The installation of the wallpaper depends on the conditions of the wall which shall be dry, hard, clean, level, smooth and free of dirt. Apply putty on the wall and level it up, apply two even courses of permeable wallpaper primer.
- It is not advised to paste the wallpaper on the wall directly;
- Some wallpapers are translucent, please make sure the wall is even in colour and free of any pencil marks, lines or stains, you may consider pasting a paper lining underneath (see Paper Lining); and
- The wallpaper primer used shall be permeable Two courses are required to harden the wall surface.
For damp and spongy walls, you need:
- Check the wall and remove any surface with mould, damage, cracks or soft features (dentable with hard objects) until the layer of cement mortar is visible;
- Apply white cement and putty on the mortar layer, polish the putty layer until it’s level and free of particles;
- Roller-coat one course of permeable wallpaper primer and another course when the first is dry; and
- Polish the surface with sand-paper when the primer is dry to make the surface smooth, and keep the wall clean.

Paper Lining (Optional):
To reduce the impact of the colour of the wall on the wallpaper, you may use a thick lining beneath the wall paper as long as the joints of the lining are staggered from the joints of wallpaper and the same type of adhesive is used as the wall paper. Wallpaper shall not be installed until 4 hours after the completion of lining installation.
Draft
We will send you the layout draft along with finished wallpaper. Please make sure the personnel to install the wallpaper have fully understand the layout draft, the received wallpaper is correct in quantity, and the personnel are able to put each panel on the correct place.
Each panel of wallpaper will be marked with a number by pencil. This number also appears on the top of the draft, please follow the sequence of the numbers for installation.
Cutting:
Overlap the right panel on the left panel by 30 mm, cut along the centreline of the overlap. Change the knife blades after each cutting stroke.
Adhesive:
The adhesive to be used shall be water-soluble, starch-based and low-moisture products, including without limitation to Bartoline Wallpaper Adhesive (https://www.bartoline.co.uk/product_items/all-purpose-wallpaper-adhesive-flake/). It is not advised to choose cellulose-based, auto-mixed or very thin ones.
The adhesive shall be used at the concentration set by the manufacturer, yet you may add some water and dilute it down to 15% to reduce the speed of drying if your property is located in a dry and hot place. Please make sure there are no impurities or caking in the blended adhesive.
All tools that may touch the wallpaper shall be kept clean. Apply appropriate amount of adhesive on the back of the cut wallpaper with brush or roller. Excessive adhesive or insufficient adhesive may lead to the failure of installation. A wallpaper shall be pasted within 10 minutes after the application of adhesive.
It is advised to try it first on a small piece of leftover wallpaper whenever you would like to start pasting or wipe stains on the wallpaper.
Reminder:
- Due to the tolerance of wall surface evenness, a mismatch up to 5 mm might occur and shall not be deemed as a quality issue.
